The 2025/26 Brazil soybean estimate was left unchanged this week at 180.0 million tons with a neutral bias.

Soybean planting is underway in Parana and just getting started in Mato Grosso. Nationwide, 0.4% of the soybeans were planted as of late last week compared to 0.1% average according to AgRural.

Mato Grosso - Soybean planting in Mato Grosso started on September 7th with most of the soybeans planted thus far being irrigated. A limited amount of dryland soybeans have been planted, but most farmers are waiting for additional rainfall.

The recent trend in Mato Grosso is for farmers to plant more early maturing soybeans, which would increase the possibility of planting the safrinha corn within the ideal planting window. Increasing corn ethanol production is supporting corn prices in Mato Grosso resulting in better margins for corn vs. soybeans. This is especially true along the BR 163 highway corridor in central Mato Gosso where most of the corn ethanol facilities are located.

Imea estimates that 27 million tons of corn will be consumed domestically in Mato Grosso, which is up 16.2% compared to last year. Years ago, safrinha corn was viewed as "icing on the cake" with soybeans being the main crop. With increased corn ethanol production, corn is now viewed as equally as important as soybeans and at times, maybe even more so.

Parana - Soybean planting in Parana started on September 1st in the western and northern part of the state with farmers planting between frequent showers. In southern Parana, soybean planting will start during the second half of September.

The September WASDE report, the USDA estimated the 2026/27 Brazil soybean crop at 186.0 million tons.
